Day 7 - Three for One!

So, now I'm up to "chapter" 11, thanks to some writing sprees and short "chapters." I'm not really sure what to call them, but "epigram" is just an obnoxious word.

Now that my pen actually writes smoothly, I can go a lot faster, which has also seemed to make the quality of my handwriting degrade somewhat. Now comes the real difficulty - forcing myself to write slowly in order to write better.

But, it could be worse!

Day 6 - Two for One!

Today was a good day.

I wrote two sections, instead of one, in about the same time.
I also fiddled with this damned pen, and opened the ink feed a little more, so it is much easier to write with now. The Noodler's Ahab is notoriously difficult to make work properly, but I am gradually enticing it into writing just like I want.
I will probably open it up a little more yet...

Oh, the joy of these small things.

Days 4 & 5

So, last time I skipped day 3 on accident, and wrote day 4.
Today I wrote days 3 and 5, since I missed yesterday due to being swamped with work.

I did lapse some today, and wasted some time reading (mostly) useless news. But, work went well, and didn't suffer from it.

At some point I should put some "joy" on here, to earn the name of this blog...

For now, dear reader, rest assured that I am leaving today with a smile on my face, and peace in my heart. What else can there be, when we control so little?

Day 3

Accidentally wrote section IV instead of III. So, next time I will write III instead of IV.

So far this remains an excellent way of calming my head. Today's writing let me come back to level after a long and frustrating meeting, which is about as much as one can hope for from some honest philosophy.

Not only this, but I am improving my writing posture - if you embiggen and squint, you can see in the last few lines where the letters become more even, as I tried turning the page a few degrees. I gather that most people caught on to this in 3rd grade when they learned cursive...

Day 2 complete!

Advice on Desire and Aversions - don't have them if you can't control them.

Too much real work to get done to put up any writing here, but here's the photo!

Day 1: The Enchiridion

This project is simple: to transcribe by hand the Enchiridion of Epictetus, with the double aims of learning more of the Stoic ideal, and improving my rather poor handwriting.

The pen is a Noodler's Ahab (filled with Noodler's Old Manhattan), and the notebook is some "Chem Lab-book" which has surprisingly nice paper, and a hard waxy binding.

I will consider this project complete when this notebook is full with the complete text of the Enchiridion - afterwards, I might continue writing with some other work.

So far, my hand aches. Enlightenment seems... difficult at best. However, my mind feels calmer than before I started, so I will likely last another day.

I also hope to give some annotations to this, in blog form, but for now this will have to do.
